Multi-Tech FaxFinder Client Operation Primer Receiving a Fax
11
Receiving Faxes from the Fax Attendant (POTS Mode)
In POTS Mode, all faxes are sent to a single phone number where the FaxFinder receives the call.
1. The FaxFinder receives the fax and converts it to a TIFF (Tag Image File Format) file. It gives the TIFF file an
automatically generated name and attaches it to an email message. The FaxFinder sends the email message
with the attachment to the Fax Attendant.
2. After the Fax Attendant receives the email with the TIFF attachment, he/she must open it in a TIFF viewer to
determine who the final intended recipient is.
3. The Fax Attendant forwards the email with the TIFF attachment to the intended recipient.
4. When the recipient receives the email with the TIFF attachment, he/she uses a TIFF viewer to view the
incoming fax. The sender’s “Remote ID” and the client’s name appear in the “Subject” line of the email
message. (The Remote ID comes from the sending fax machine and is typically the sender’s fax number or
name.)
5. From the TIFF viewer, the recipient can print or forward the fax or rename it with a more meaningful file name,
as desired.
